Fashion between the panels : Boomerang

All looks are styled and arranged by JMADDD STYLES.

Hello everyone out there, as always it’s good to see you. I AM JMADDD STYLES , and I would like to welcome you to another installment of Fashion between the panels. Fashion between the panels: BOOMERANG , to be exact. This time I will be taking you between the panels of yet another movie classic ( BOOMERANG ) and breaking down the fashion to come up with new inspired looks , based around and inspired by the looks in the movie. Showing you the timelessness of good fashion and how fashionably relevant this classic piece of cinema really is. I’m going to take a look at five of the major characters in the film , ( Jackie / Robin Givens ), ( Marcus Graham/ Eddie Murphy) , ( Christie / Lela Rochon ) , ( Angela / Halle Berry ) ,( Mr Jackson /John Witherspoon) , and ( Strange’/ Grace Jones ). Each of these characters were very much fashionably noteworthy in their own way in the movie. With that said let’s get started.

Christie / Lela Rochon.

Let’s start right here with Christie/ Lela Rochon , when you looked at her character, you got a vibe of pure sexy but effortless, basically she had great date night style. With the halter neck body-con dress that she wore in this scene. This look is very much timeless as in it could still be worn today. But let’s take a look at how this look would translate today to really make it on trend for right now.

To translate this look for today , I kept the basic color of the dress being purple , with a slight pink hew. But I changed the details. The first option being a little closer to the look that was actually worn in the movie. A more sexy cocktail halter neck dress , but I added a long gold chain, a floral summer bag , a bangle bracelet with multi colored stones to highlight the dress color and the look is finished with a perfect opened toe sandal in a contrasting pink with hints of purple. The second look is also a halter neck dress , but a little more on the elegant side as the length is longer. I kept most of the accessories the same , but changed the shoes to a more elegant gold sandal to better suit the dress.

Jackie/ Robin Givens & Marcus Graham / Eddie Murphy.

Throughout this blog post , we are going to come back to Jackie and Marcus a few times , here I’m going to start breaking down their looks. Now keep in mind that this movie came out in the 90’s but once again the looks still translate well today.

This is truly a timeless look , navy blue suit with a grey mock neck , this look can go a long way. To translate this look better for now , I gave you more of a tailored suit look , as the suit being worn in this scene is a little more on the unconstructed side , as a lot of clothing in the 90’s was. To complete the look I went with a blue cap-toe shoe and a matching belt. The look easily goes from the boardroom to a night out.

This look being worn by Jackie / Robin Givens , like most of the looks that she wore in the movie or all the looks she wore in the movie are truly timeless. She for the most part wore classic women’s suits , that took on the appearance of the ever on trend Channel suit. But let’s see how this look would translate today.

Now for this look I made a few changes but still managed to keep the timelessness of the original look. I kept the look in green , but did not go with a check pattern. Instead I went with a solid patternless look. That almost has the same feel as the original. also instead of a overtly sexy shoe, I went with a more subdued pump in a neutral color and a contrasting brown cross body bag.

The looks being captured above that are being worn by Eddie Murphy & Robin Givens, are evening wear looks. Once again when it came to the fashion that Jackie / Robin wore throughout this movie was truly timeless, it doesn’t take much tweaking, just small changes to give the looks a more fresher appeal. In this case , she’s wearing a black evening gown , that was done in a more velvety material with just a few accompanying jewelry pieces. I took this look and put it in more of a silk blend evening gown , changed up the shoes to a strappy evening sandal and kept the look of the pearl bracelet and necklace that always looks classy with a black evening wear look. Now to look at the evening wear look that Marcus / Eddie is wearing, of course being that it’s menswear from another era, that was fitted like it’s from another era , I gave you the more tailored tux with the more wide peek lapel in satin. The idea of the look is classic but not the styling or the fit. I also gave the look a shoe change and kept the bow tie in gold.

Grace Jones / Strange’

Grace Jones / Strange’

We couldn’t leave this classic scene of this movie without, styling a more updated version of the Strange’/ Grace Jones look. If you take a good look at this outfit , it’s to far off by today’s standards. The tights , or hot pants of yesterday are still fashion forward today just a slightly different cut. But I changed the waistcoat to a more straight styled vest of mid thigh length instead of the fishnet looking one she wore in the movie giving the look a little more of a regal appearance. I kept the black and red ankle boot but switched up the style of the boot for update purposes. I also added a gold choker to complement the cut away sleeve top , slightly changing the whole look.

Marcus Graham/ Eddie Murphy

Taking it back to Marcus Graham/ Eddie Murphy, The two looks that you are seeing above are not actually different looks. The top look is heading into the office with an overcoat, the second look is what is being worn under the overcoat once in the office. For the top look , I added a more trendy black jean. To play off the black overcoat, kept the paisley scarf slight color change , added a designer belt and a dress boot that could go a long way. The second look is the full office business casual look without the coat. The full look definitely required updating. Changed the lapeless blazer to a different version almost the same jacket with a smaller more sleeker lapel , to modernize the look , but still kept it classic with the turtleneck.

Angela / Halle Berry.

Interesting observation about this movie , Halle Berry is easily one of the best looking women in Hollywood. But in this movie they down played her character up against Robin Givens character, making Jackie come across twice as sexy , while Angela came across more cute , fashionably speaking until the end. If you never noticed , you will see what I mean. Angela’s style in the movie was not as classic and timeless as Jackie’s, so a lot of her looks were truly 90’s. So to capture her looks , I made a few modifications. Starting with this look. I went with a classic button down dress shirt in black with a more traditional collar. For the pants , I went with a more tailored fit dress pant to play up against the shirt, and for authenticity I still added in a Kufi ( hat ) that can be pulled off if that’s the style you project. Also for authenticity added a necklace almost identical to the one Jackie had on in the original look.

Marcus Graham/Eddie Murphy & Angela / Halle Berry.

This look on Angela could have very well been a sexy look , but it was still down played coming across as cute. But when I decided to make the look over , I went with a more sexy appeal. The dress is still made of the same type material, but it’s a little longer and a bit more form fitted. The jacket I added gives you the feel of a cropped blazer instead of looking as lounge like. Then to really add more sex appeal to the look I added in a high healed open toe sandal , to add more to the dress and jacket , then finished off the look with a noticeable yet not overwhelming bracelet.

The Marcus Graham look for this scene could have almost been classified as a new age 90’s leisure suit , I often debated was it a one piece, sweater pants combo done like a lounge jumpsuit. Either way you look at it , the look had to be changed. I still went with a pull over sweater, but opted for the zipper collar instead of the one button on the inside of the sweater. Then went with a casual black denim styled chino in black , a loafer for true Marcus Graham style , then a designer silver chain with onyx piece for a good jewelry accent and finished the look with a designer belt. Although changed still capturing the Marcus Graham look.

John Witherspoon / Mr. Jackson

I could not leave this classic scene in the movie without showing you that I knew how to capture the look of Mr. you have to coordinate, an authentic 60’s / 70’s leisure suit look. The interesting part about capturing this look , you have vintage clothing wearers that search high and low for a leisure suit such as this one with the fly collar shirt and vintage dress boots. Giving you a touch of what is known as Geezer Style.

Jackie / Robin Givens.

I know that I have already said this but , every look that Jackie wore translates almost seamlessly from then to now. The major changes that I made to this look , really were not major. The cut of the jacket for this suit is slightly different as it has a zipper closure instead of a double breasted button front. Also added a cream or egg shell colored hand bag with contrasting pump in the same color way. This look just screams Jackie . Wouldn’t you say ? As always I LET YOU TELL IT.

Angela / Halle Berry.

A little earlier I made reference to the fact that throughout this movie , Angela had a more cute style as opposed to Jackie being more fashionably bold and sexy. But by the end of the film this would change and the Angela character would become more like Jackie fashionably speaking. The look here all business, from the Black dress to the gold heels , then finished off with a gold necklace to fill the open space at the cleavage line of the dress and finished off with a subtle gold earring. Taking Angela’s style to a whole different fashionable Plato , or level. Well there it is , just like that , we have reached the end of yet another blog post. I hope you have enjoyed reading it, just as much as I enjoyed presenting it. I AM JMADDD STYLES , and this has been Fashion between the panels : BOOMERANG. Fashion between the panels: The Women Of Marvel: Pt 3.

Hello everyone out there, as always it’s good to see you. I AM JMADDD STYLES and I would like to welcome you to my latest blog post. This is the third installment in an ongoing series. Fashion between the panels: The Women of Marvel: Pt 3. The fashionable inspirations for this blog post are Monica Rambeau ( Captain Marvel ) , Sue Storm ( The Invisible Woman ) and Mystique. I am going to take you on a fashionable journey between the panels , to come back out with new inspired looks , that have been inspired from each of these comic book heroines. So as always pull up a chair and stay awhile cause You are about to be styled by JMADDD. Now let’s get started right here with….

Monica Rambeau ( Captain Marvel)

To get this fashionable journey started , I’m going to get started with Monica Rambeau , or Captain Marvel. I did a previous blog post where I used Carol Danvers also Captain Marvel as the backdrop or inspiration for some newly inspired looks. For that version of Captain Marvel , I worked with the red and blue color ways to highlight the look that Carol Danvers has become famous for over the years. In that same blog post , I briefly touched on The Captain Marvel that is Monica Rambeau , the first black Captain Marvel . So I wanted to make sure to come back to this character , and expand a little more on drawing fashionable inspiration from her.

With each of these looks , I stuck with the classic ever popular black and white color scheme, that Monica Rambeau was best known for. Aside from this , black and white is always a good color combo to work with. But this is the original version of this comic book character , over the years, she has taken on a more modern look.

As you can see the color scheme is still the same , but now she adds in a trench coat and a slight change of shoe. So let’s see what kind of look I pulled from between the panels to capture the fashionable likeness of the new version of Monica Rambeau.

All looks are styled and arranged by JMADDD STYLES.

I still kept with the main staple of the look , being the black leather pants, then from there I added in a trench coat to the look and a black and white two toned body suit , and switched out the white boots and pumps for a black boot , creating a more active wear feel , capturing the fashionable likeness in a totally different way.

Drawing fashionable inspiration from Captain Marvel , I have just pulled three different looks from between the panels or in this case comic book panels. Now let’s move into the next fashionable likeness that I’m going to use for fashionable inspiration, and that is going to be ……

Sue Storm ( The Invisible Woman)

When it comes to styling looks that are fashionably inspired by a character like Sue Storm , the first thing you have to do is think along the lines of a monochromatic color scheme , and if that is the case , how to do this and still make the look pop is the real challenge. So how would that be done ? Let’s see.

As you can see the top look is the more monochromatic look , I went with a silk blouse or more less a silk dress shirt. The look is accented with a blue face watch , an ankle boot and a belt combination bag that is two toned royal blue and black to really set the look off. Monochromatic looks have really become popular over the last few years so this look keeps you on trend. The next look doesn’t give you the same monochromatic feel , it gives you different shades of blue that still blend together well to make a cohesive look, blending denim with a powder blue tailored dress pant. Finishing the look off with a suede ankle boot , a gold and blue bag , then accenting the look with a blue watch of a different shade trimmed in gold , bringing the entire look together. Then the final look is the same as the first , I just switched out the shoes to a royal blue pump giving the look a slightly different feel. These are the looks that are fashionably inspired from Sue Storm, The Invisible Woman. That brings us to our last subject for inspiration , in this third installment of The Women of Marvel series, Mystique.

Mystique.

If you really take a good look at this fan favorite super heroine, the comic version is in actuality already fashion forward. She wears a body con white dress , that takes on a leather appearance. Then she wears long elbow length white leather gloves and always has on white leather boots. She has been fashion forward for many years. But how can this look be translated to look fashionable outside of the comic panels ? Well let’s see.

To translate this look , I gave you three different looks that all use white leather . The first two looks are white leather dresses with a blue motorcycle jacket to put you in the mindset of the Mystique color scheme. Both looks are finished off with a white ankle boot that both remind you of the boots that she is so famously known for. Then the third look I gave you the white leather pants option , with a white or cream graphic t-shirt , giving you even more of a fashion forward rocker sheik look , that perfectly captures the fashionable likeness of Mystique. Then each look also includes jewelry accessories to make the looks pop just a little more.

Well there it is , once again we have come to the end of yet another blog post, I hope you have enjoyed reading it , just as much as I enjoyed presenting it. I AM JMADDD STYLES , and this has been Fashion between the panels: The Women of Marvel: Pt 3. Keep your eyes open for Pt 4 coming soon. That’s it for now , so until the next time…IM GONE…!!!..

But no matter what face attached to the name , the character was always synonymous with smooth style and great fashion throughout the years , no matter what era it was , be it 60’s , 70’s , 80’s , 90’s or the 2000’s , whatever version of Bond you got they all had and have the same trait impeccable style and always perfectly tailored clothing.

Over the many decades and years that’s been a lot of fashion and tons of style , but today we are going to focus in on the latest and my personal favorite 007 , Daniel Craig . Fashion between the panels: Krush Groove

Fashion between the panels: Krush Groove

Hello everyone out there as always it’s good to see you . I AM JMADDD STYLES , and I would like to welcome you to my latest blog post. Fashion between the panels : Krush Groove, for this latest installment of this ongoing blog series, im taking you back in time to 1985 to a groundbreaking film in Hiphop history to show you how the fashion that you saw on screen back then would currently translate into looks for right now. If you have never seen this film and you call yourself a fan of The Culture of Hiphop, then you are doing yourself a great disservice. So after reading this be sure to make it a priority to see this film. So right now im going to take the main characters from the film and break down how their fashionable Influence from then still could work today right now at this very minute. So with that said, let’s get this fashionable party started with……

Sheila E :

At This time period it was one thing to have a film that brought all your favorite Hiphop stars to the big screen, but it was a whole other level for an R&B star to be in the movie with them. That R&B star was the one and only Sheila E. whom back then was apart of the Prince movement and known for her cutting edge style already.

From The hair to the clothes, this look that you are seeing on her in the above pictures, translated as just plain cool with a touch of sexy on the screen, but how would this look translate to right now ?

To style this look for a modern feel , you have to go head to toe leather , the jacket that Sheila E. is wearing gives you a Moto-style kind of vibe , so that’s where the look would start, from there if you look at her pants they are 2 toned, so to capture that I went with a color blocked pair of leather pants accessorized the look with leather gloves and finished the look off with color blocked boots and multi layer pearl necklace to capture and finish her exact look .

Then there was this look from her hit single in the movie Holly Rock. This is a look that could, easily translate from then to now ,

The look was already cutting edge , but to make more for now , didn’t take much. Changed the blouse out for a more dramatic style , and add the suede ankle boot finish the look with a sequin half glove instead of the one long glove , which would have been still cool to go with. Perfectly capturing a more modern version of Sheila E ‘s look.

Kurtis Blow :

At This time in Hiphop, Kurtis Blow was known as The King of Rap. He was the show stopper and the showman. Whenever you saw Kurtis Blow he was dressed 80’s fresh. He was wearing the suits , and the best leather fashions as you can see in the pic above.

A good leather look never goes out of style , that’s why taking Kurtis Blow’s look from 80’s fresh to new era fly won’t be difficult at all , it just takes the right eye and good fashionable vision.

The look that I wanted to style and reinvent is his classic look from the movie seen above. I did 3 variations of the same look using two different T-shirts and the top hat is optional, creating a truly modernized version of Kurtis Blow’s Krush Groove look.

The Fat Boys :

In this movie , The Fat Boys or The Disco Three were kind of the comic relief of the film , although all the hits that they had over the years were no kind of joke. There style in the film was not well defined

other than the fact that it was cool and trendy for the time , but if you take a really good look , the trendiness of then still works now

notice the Dapper Dan looks right here , and unless you just plain live under a non fashionable rock , you know that Dapper Dan is back bigger and better than ever.

with an all new Gucci collection and collaboration, with a look that picks back up right where it left off years ago like it never left. More bold and flashier than ever and definitely more expensive than ever , but hey it’s Gucci.

RUN DMC :

Talking about a group that truly defined a look when it comes to Hiphop, they were a group with a lot of fashion firsts they basically defined an era

almost pretty much monopolized an entire style from the signature leather suits , to the sweat suits , all the way to being the first to make you notice what a fedora was .

Not To mention the jewelry, they were the absolute first to ware the big gold chains or truck jewelry, the group was both music and style icons. But their most defining look was the Adidas sweatsuit and shell toe sneakers with the classic fedora.

A Look that is still relevant today and dosen’t require any real modernization or tweaking, it’s still just as cool now as it was then , of course the hat is optional. But you cannot see this look and not be reminded of RUN DMC.

LL COOL J :

Now LL didn’t have a huge role in this film , but the few minutes that he was in the movie , created a lasting memory in Hiphop history. That would be because it was the first time you could put a face to the then 16 yr old rapper that already had a hit on the radio called I need a beat.

Even though he was so young then , he still defined a signature style , that style being the Kangol bucket hat with the jeans and the Polo style shirt. Seems simple enough but the look became synonymous with LL COOL J.

This look also stood the test of time and still holds strong for today , of course back then more than likely he was wearing an IZOD LACOSTE, which is still hot till this day with it’s signature alligator logo. When I recreated and restyled the look , I preferred to use the Ralph Lauren Polo shirt with the Ralph Lauren jeans and jacket. Finishing the look with a classic pair of Nike Air Max and of course the hat is optional.

Russell Simmons:

An interesting fact about this film is that Russell Simmons or then Russell Rush was the only character in the film that was not played by himself or the actual person. Even his then partner in starting Def Jam , Rick Reuben also pictured above , still played himself. Instead at the time it was Blaire Underwood that portrayed the role of The godfather of Hiphop, the one and only Russell Simmons. The look that you see him wearing above would kind of become a signature look for Russell Simmons in years to come , although the look pictured is very 80’s , it could be slightly changed and restyled to fit one of Russell Simon’s signature looks.

Giving you the suit and tennis shoes combination, the key to this look is having the right suit and the right sneaker that will pair together. In this case the corduroy suit is the perfect fit for a casual sneaker , and for an authentic 80’s feel throw in the knit tie.

It was never really said why Russell Simmons didn’t portray himself in the film but for a long time until you got a look at the actual person, the name Russell Rush almost seemed synonymous with Blaire Underwood’s face.

Well their it is , we have once again come to the end of yet another blog post, I hope you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you again for my next upcoming one. I AM JMADDD STYLES and this has been Fashion between the panels : KRUSH GROOVE. That’s it for now, so until the next time IM GONE…!!!
